Dr Martin Elmes - Robina Rooms (Urologist)

TRAINING

After completing his Bachelor of medicine and Bachelor of surgery having attained Dean’s honours and Dux of physiology & Biochemistry, Dr Elmes completed his general surgical training at the Alfred, Austin and Western hospitals in Melbourne.

His urology interests began in 2001 with residency and assisting surgically at a multitude of operations.  He furthered his urological training with a Doctorate of Medicine investigating Prostate Cancer immunology and presenting multiple clinical papers at state and international levels.

He was awarded the prestigous Ronald John Gleghorn Scholarship from The University Of Melbourne 2006 and then awarded the inaugural Rodney Syme Scholarship from the Department Urology Austin Health 2007.

Martin completed his advanced urological surgery training in Sydney, NSW having passed his fellowship exams with distinction.

INTERESTS & EXPERTISE

After attaining his FRACS (Syd.) Dr Elmes spent a further year refining sub speciality techniques.  He was invited to complete a complex stone surgical fellowship under the tutelage of Australia's leading stone endourologist Dr Raymond Ko. In addition he spent time with world experts in open and minimally invasive cancer surgery. He was the first ever fellow to use the Da Vinci Si robot in the state-of-the-art theatres at Nepean hospital - the largest Urological training hospital in NSW.

It is in these fields his interests lie however he consults on broader general urological issues, including impotence, andrology and prosthesis  surgery.

TEACHING/RESEARCH

Dr Elmes has spent over 15 years teaching and training today’s medical students, junior doctors and surgeons.

He was an honorary lecturer and tutor at the Austin hospital clinical school and the University of Melbourne.  He continues to teach our senior urological trainee at the Tweed and John Flynn hospitals. 

He lectures and conducts seminars for Bond and Griffith University students and is actively involved in their PhD research programs. He is also is an invited guest speaker at the prostate cancer foundation support group on the Gold Coast.
